Luke's body had grown weary of the chemotherapy and many complications set
in during the last stretch of treatment. He did not have energy for much, yet
did fall in love with playing the bongos. It was the one activity he could
muster up the strength to do. After 30 minutes of playing, Luke's parents would
see a glimmer of the little boy that existed behind the mask of tough treatment
days. After Luke's first drum lesson, he walked out and said "Mom, you
know how I was lucky and got the cancer out in 5 days? Well, I know other kids
aren't that lucky. I want them to feel how I feel when I play the drums."
And with that, Rhythm Pax was born.
